When our students begin their 9th grade year, she is assigned an academic advisor along with approximately 8 other girls. In most cases she will remain with that advisory group for her entire high school career. The purpose of Academic Advising is to give each student an adult advocate who will guide them through their academic and social experiences throughout their four years at Alverno. It also provides a stable peer group to learn from and share with over the course of their time together.
Academic Advising meets twice a month for 35 minute sessions to review grades, SCOIR, as well as discuss course selection and update student resumes on SCOIR. Parent(s)/guardian(s) have an opportunity to meet their daughter’s academic advisor at our Back-to-School Night scheduled at the beginning of each school year. They also can contact their daughter’s academic advisor through email or phone for questions regarding grades, current academic progress, or any other concern regarding their daughter’s overall success at Alverno. Just as parent(s)/guardian(s) should maintain regular communication with her daughter’s teachers, regular communication with her daughter’s academic advisor should be a routine part of her academic plan.
