Students Enjoy “Soft Opening” of the Learning Technology Center
On Wednesday, April 26 the students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to enjoy a special “soft-opening” of the Learning Technology Center, formerly the Alverno Library.
Construction on the LTC began back in July of 2016 and as it goes with construction, it took longer than expected as we ran into challenges with permits, the roof, and shipping delays on necessary materials. Fast forward nine months and this “baby of a project” is nearly complete! Alverno received our final occupancy numbers from the city and now are just waiting for boxes to be unpacked and the final light fixtures to be delivered for the project to be complete!
Wednesday morning, Ms. Julia V. Fanara, P’01, ’03, & ’05, Head of School, shared some of the challenges and successes of the project with the campus community before asking Fr. Michael Cooper P’20 to offer a blessing of the LTC. In addition to a blessing of this new beautiful space, Fr. Cooper P’20 offered a special prayer for the students who would be using the LTC now and in the years to come. At the end of the presentation, Ms. Fanara cut the ribbon on the doors officially declaring the Learning Technology Center open for our students!
Each class was invited inside to tour the new space which includes two collapsible conference rooms, new furniture, movable bookshelves, a large screen and projector, an ADA accessible bathroom, three offices, and a new classroom. While there is still some minor work to be done, it’s safe to say that the building certainly earned the approval of our students and will be a new popular destination on campus!
An official “Dedication and Ribbon Cutting” will be taking place in June with more details to follow. Until then, we invite all of our community members to drop by and take a peek at this beautiful “baby!”
